Along with the Waves

Daebu Island of South Korea is a home to a variety of endangered birds. In partnership with Shihwa Lake Savers, an environmental activist non-profit, Seyeong camped in Daebu Island during the near-extinct Eurasian oystercatcher’s breeding season from April 2022 to June 2022. She worked with local politicians and City Hall to organize mass clean-ups for marine debris and to protest against illegal fishing activities that destroyed habitats of endangered species. During this process, Seyeong engaged in conversations with illegal tourists about responsible engagement with local environments, and created art installations with a selected portion of over 50 tons of collected trash and natural derivatives. Her works were featured in various South Korean news platforms and exhibited at the Kimhongdo Museum in Ansan, South Korea in June 2022.
